From Margaret Hope Bacon: “SUNY PRESS has just published a book of mine which will be of interest to Friends. Robert Purvis was a member of the Progressive Friends of Longwood, and his second wife is buried there. He was also a benefactor of Byberry Meeting, a close friend and colleague of Lucretia and James Mott, and a pioneer of the underground railroad. A man of color, he always said there was But One Race, the Human Race.”
